what_roomThere seems to be a trend going around fictionpress.com right now of visual artists coming into DMs and asking if they can be commissioned.
90% of the time these accounts don't even have a link to an online portfolio.
I'm so frustrated that they don't just draw some crazy fanart and send it along.
Who neglected to telkl these people when they were kids that you can't make any money as an artist, and therefore had to give up on their dreams?
Because it seems to have led to these artists thinking their works of art are products which have to be sold, and to do that they are writing me these DMs which sound like freaking job applications.
It literally says on my profile that I accept feral screaming. quote,

No one reads the profile of the person they're speaking to anymore?
No one just comments on a fic they like any more?
...No one wants to show off their art to everyone and puts a link to their insta on every other social media website where interaction might occur?
A huge part of my art journey was taking my sketchbook to school and showing my friend and rival all the things i had been drawing over the weekend, and she would show me her sketchbook also. Art is about sharing what you made with everyone, and eventually you might stumble across another artist you would want to collab with. BUT THE POINT IS TO CARRY AROUND A SKETCHBOOK TO BEGIN WITH. SHARING IS THE BASELINE.
There is absolutely no way that someone becomes an artist for the money. There's no way they sit through art school or home training, the same way I sat through years of customer service jobs until I trained myself to have a good customer service smile.
Drawing whatever is popular right now in order to get the most views and engagement?
No, you drew whoever from that show because you happened to see a new show and you really like the character.
Treating my damn special interest like it's just another 9-5 job. I'm sickened.
